~ MUSIC2DEAL.COM’S “[email protected]” COMPETITION

Music2Deal (India) – the Germany-based international music networking website ran [email protected] -  a contest, in association with he prestigious POPKOMM Music Festival, a part of the new Berlin Music Week.

This contest aimed to select one Indian artist who would open the showcase at POPKOMM 2010. Applications were invited from artistes/bands from various genres, both traditional and contemporary.

Judging the 500+ entries that came in was a jury comprising of some well known international music professionals – Hans Cuny (Communication director, International A&R, Peers Music), Corciolli (Composer, Keyboardist, founder – Azul Music), Linda Sundblat (Lead singer, Lambretta)  Richard Rogers (Internationally renowned A&R professional, consultant with Warner/Chapell, BBC, IMN), Maxe Alexxon (Founder and President, Pama Music Group).

The contestants were judged on basis of the following parameters:

1) Quality of vocals and composition

2) Performance (Dance or otherwise)

3) Stage Presence (Looks, Ability to hold the crowd, energy levels through the performance, etc)

4) Visual Appeal (Costumes, Body Language, Expressions, Spontaneity, etc)

5) Quality of the Lyrics (if in English)

6) Accent of the language (if in English)

7) Is the band export-ready or otherwise?

On August 16th, five finalists – Demonic Resurrection, Rishie Dhir, Junkyard Groove, Vasuda Sharma, Shkabang! were selected, along with 5 wild card nominees. Taksha, the winner of the wild card round joined the list, giving us our fantastic 6 finalists.

These six finalists were judges yet again, and after much discussion among the judges, Vasuda Sharma was declared the winner, on August 21st, with Shkabang! emerging as runners-up.
